The 19 Best Bridal Rompers for an Unexpected Wedding Look

by Chelsea Frank for Brides

In all aspects of wedding norms, brides are increasingly breaking away from tradition to establish their own wedding day rules. This includes unconventional bridal attire, like the playful and sweet bridal rompers.

“Bridal rompers are gaining in popularity and it’s no surprise,” says stylist Elizabeth Kosich. “Also known as playsuits (for good reason!), the onesies are fun, flirty and fuss-free, making them an easy and chic one-and-done wardrobe solution for any bride with multiple events to dress for,” she continues.

Why would a bride opt for a romper instead of a dress? “Multiple bridal events call for multiple bridal looks, making rompers a fresh, unconventional alternative to a dress,” Kosich says. “In fact, memorable style is defined by the unexpected,” she adds. “A romper can be the statement piece for any bride wanting to challenge the status quo and break traditional bridal wardrobe rules. they’re also versatile with the ability to be appropriate either day or night, and adaptable to any environment with the right styling.”

Whether you’re dressing for your bachelorette, bridal shower, the big day, or beyond, there’s a romper out there for you. To help, we’ve rounded up the best and most stylish bridal rompers on the market.

What to Look for in a Bridal Romper:

When shopping for your dream bridal rompers, Kosich has two main pieces of advice: “above all, bridal rompers should be 1.) appropriate and 2.) flattering,” she says.

“Since the bride and groom set the tone, first determine what you want your outfit to communicate before shopping rompers — formal vs. casual, sexy vs. sweet, sophisticated vs. bohemian,” she continues.

Pay attention to the following factors to help you narrow it down:

  1. Material
”If the event is formal, look for a tailored romper with structure (poly + spandex, sequins), more coverage and [luxury] details” says Kosich. Typically, more formal materials include velvet, brocade, high quality silks, and thicker fabrics that aren’t too revealing.

“Casual events call for a looser fit with unstructured fabrics (linen, silk) and details like a sash belt or skort,” Kosich says. You can also opt for cotton blends, polyester, spandex, or jersey knits.

  2. Sleeves
Sleeve length depends on time of year, weather, modesty requirements, and personal comfort. We love the look of a long sleeve top to balance out the short length of the romper (and add a touch of sophistication), but any sleeve length can work well.

  3. Length
Bridal rompers can sometimes be confused with jumpsuits, which have one key difference. Rompers are a shorts and top combo, meaning they are shorter in length than the full pant leg jumpsuit. That being said, there are more daring mini lengths and longer, more conservative options that still fit in the romper category. The length of your romper is a personal decision based on how daring or modest you prefer to dress.

FAQ

  1. Can I wear a bridal romper to my formal wedding?
While rompers can traditionally be thought of as a more causal choice for a wedding day outfit, there are plenty of embellished and glamorous styles out there that would be suited to a formal wedding. Kosich suggests paying attention to fabrics, coverage and modesty, and construction when searching for more formal rompers, as well as details like “creases, French cuffs, and shoulder pads” to elevate the style.

  2. How should I style my wedding romper?
”The beauty of bridal rompers is that they can be dressed up or dressed down,” says Kosich. “For an elevated look, pair with highly-styled heels with ankle straps that draw attention to your legs, and try matching shoe and skin colors to elongate your legs. Accessorize with a sparkly choker necklace and cropped cape, or juxtapose the feminine romper with a menswear-inspired oversized tuxedo jacket draped over your shoulders with shoulder-grazing, dangly earrings,” she says.

For a more casual, effortless look, “pair your bridal romper with sequined sneakers or embellished strappy, flat sandals, a stack of arm bracelets and a bolero jacket or faux fur wrap,” she suggests.
