Colors for Green Eyes

There is nothing more hypnotic than green eyes. Exotic, dramatic and mesmerizing, green eyes are found in only two percent of the population which makes them the most rare eye color in the world. When it comes to fashion styling, they are so powerful that they function as a stand-alone accessory. If you’re one of the lucky ones, consider them one of your strongest assets and play it up every chance you get. Here are the best colors to showcase and compliment your gorgeous green eyes:

  1. Green
To make powerful green eyes even more powerful, wear any shade of green to reinforce the hue and amp up drama. Try sage, olive and deep forest for warm undertones, or emerald and bottle green for cool skin tones. For bright coloring, pick high-intensity spring green, bright lime and neon chartreuse. When in doubt, wear universally flattering turquoise, teal and pastel mint green.

  2. Red
Red is directly across the color wheel from green and therefore its most compatible pairing. It’s also the ideal contrast color that really makes green pop. Look for anything in true red — a perfectly balanced, neutral hue that harmonizes with all undertones — and watch how green eyes come alive. If red clothing feels too bold, consider an accessory like a red scarf, necklace or earrings to draw the eye up and toward your green eyes.

  3. Fuchsia
For cool undertones, try showstopping jewel tone fuchsia. It’s one of red’s analogous colors and has a blue base which harmonizes best with cool, pinkish complexions. Try a fuchsia silk blouse or shell for daytime, pashmina wrap at night or cotton t-shirt or turtleneck for the weekend and watch how your green eyes get showered with compliments.

  4. Orange
Warm undertoned people should consider red’s other analogous color, orange. Unlike fuchsia’s blue base, orange has warm yellow underneath it which has a lightening and brightening effect to green eyes. Try a red-orange trench coat, apricot shift dress or peach tunic. If these warm hues appear too high-vibration, create a bit of distance from them by picking an orange accessory instead, like an all-purpose tote, sun hat or umbrella. A little pop of color can go a long way.

  5. White
We don’t often consider white a power neutral but, when it comes to green eyes, it is. Wearing white ties to the iris, drawing attention up and toward the eyes. It also keeps the palette simple and clean, preventing distractions away from them. Always remember that less is more when it comes to green eyes. They make a powerful statement on their own, which white only reinforces.
