Sneakers AW22

Nothing says American Sportswear like a sharp pair of sneakers. Sporty, spiffy and smart, the athletic staple has morphed into The It Shoe in recent years making them a de rigueur wardrobe essential for any stylish woman. Gone are the days tennis shoes are just for the courts!

You can’t beat the comfort of sneakers, or versatility — dress up, dress down and transition from day to night just as long as you keep it chic. The key to looking fabulous and not frumpy is elevating the look for a high/low effect. This keeps you looking current, relevant and polished, not mistaken for being on your way to the gym. Here are 5 tips to help you up your sneaker game this season:

  1. Add a touch of luxury
Pair sneakers with investment pieces for a balanced, high/low look. Think luxury touches like cashmere and leather to off-set the casualness of the sneaker. A balanced pairing and popular go-to winter uniform is leather pants and a cashmere turtleneck with bulky, traction-soled sneakers and a puffer coat. So chic!

  2. Go for contrast
Think opposites and pair sneakers with masculine or formal elements to strike balance. Think wide leg, menswear-inspired suiting or trousers with a cozy sweater; or, a dinner jacket with an untucked crisp, white shirt, jeans and a sparkly accessory. Keep sneakers bright white so the head-to-toe look stays minimal, upscale and on trend.

  3. Make a statement
Sometimes you just gotta go for it and make sneakers the star of the show! Wear head-to-toe neutrals or an all monochromatic outfit to not distract away from the shoes. But don’t stop there — take a risk by choosing a statement shoe. Try neon, metallic, color-block or high top designs for a stylish statement. If that feels too daring, try a statement sock instead in a fun color or pattern to add flare.

  4. Keep it classic
Sticking with simple, effortless looks is another way to elevate sneakers. Try pairing with jeans, a Breton striped tee and khaki trench; or, slouchy trousers, a classic white t-shirt and jean jacket. Avoid wearing with chinos!

  5. Hem length matters
The most stylish hem lengths are long or short, not in between. Trouser-cut pants should graze the floor with sneaker toe poking out in front only. If not long, try a cropped trouser or ankle flare paired with a neutral or colored knee-high. Remember jean hems can be rolled up or folded to a super-sized, wide cuff for a cropped look that sets the stage for your cool kicks.
