Trend Watch AW19

From street style to the red carpet, AW19 trends are in full-swing. This season is chic, sleek and full of attitude with a “Bring your A game” call to action. If it’s time for a wardrobe refresh, you’re in for a treat. Below are the hottest top 10 trends you should consider adding to your wardrobe:

  1. Plaid
From bold to subtle, anything plaid is this season’s must-have item. Glen plaid, tartan, houndstooth, Black Watch or Gun Club Check, there’s an abundance of gorgeous patterns in chic menswear-inspired styles to choose from — suiting, wide-leg trousers, blazer dresses, slouchy overcoats. Add a feminine touch like a bodysuit, silk blouse, floral tights or slip dress to soften the look and make your own. When deciding on a plaid, consider the FW19 Trend Color Palette here to look current.

  2. Python boots
From bootie to stiletto, the python boot is super hot for fall and worth the spend. Pick a neutral version to add texture to your look or buy a pair in color — red, yellow — to add drama.

  3. Fringe jacket
We’re seeing whispers of fringe this season which can be a fun touch if worn sparingly. The fringe jacket in suede or leather is a perennial classic that I’m (super!) happy to see make a comeback. Note it’s best to pair with camouflage jeans and sneakers or a pleated skirt and graphic tee to make sure the look doesn’t skew cowgirl.

  4. Metallic booties
Silver, gold or gunmetal, metallic booties are huge for fall and worth considering. Shop the many kitten heel options available to nail the trend and stay comfortable. Your feet will thank you in 10 years.

  5. Le Smoking
I love a good YSL reference and this season his iconic Le Smoking is everywhere. This is a timeless look, making it a good idea to refresh your wardrobe now while the options are too good to pass up. Buy separates, a full suit, jumpsuit or playsuit in velvet, sequin, metallic, jacquard or wool gaberdine. It’s a devastatingly stylish look and one of my all time faves, so keep it on your radar. If you’re not familiar with Le Smoking here’s a history lesson. Read up!

  6. Combat boots
Moto, Docs or straight-up combat style, this badass look is chicer than ever. Pair with anything from skinny jeans to a chiffon floral maxi to look au courant.

  7. Oversized coat
Think looong. Pick from drop-shoulder menswear, cape or wrap styles this season and if it sweeps the floor, even better.

  8. Gold chain necklace
Part goddess, part disco, the gold chain link necklace is a great accessory for warmer skin tones. The chunkier the chain the bigger the statement, so choose link size based on how much you want to get noticed and always — ALWAYS — match jewelry scale to that of your facial features.

  9. Trouser jean
I’m loving the wide-leg, trouser-style jean this season, especially in dark wash. Pair with a black turtleneck and metallic kitten heel booties to nail this season’s silhouette.

  10. Sneakers
Now that we’re seeing kicks on the red carpet, it confirms fashion has shifted from form to function. To sport the trend (see what I did there?) get a bright white pair, keep them bright-white clean and wear with anything and everything.

No matter how much you love a trend, take a pass if it doesn’t work with your colors, body shape, proportions or scale. No fashion-victims here, please!
